The best 3 tips to make your pubmed search 10x easier

I am a doctor (cardiologist) and I wrote 6 original
articles in the last 2 years, and am writing 3 original articles now.
I spent a lot of time on the web page,
Pubmed”, and built some tips.
I will introduce my tips for searching on Pubmed, in this article.

目次

1. “” (double quotation mark)

When you
use “” , pubmed will search the whole words as a key ward.   For example, when you put sport medicine
without ””, pubmed will search any article with sport
OR medicine. Actually, it found as much as 76 thousand of articles. On the
other hand, if you use “” , pubmed will search the
word, sport medicine. Then you can pick about 3 thousand.

2. Advanced research

To use it, click “advanced
tag” on the web page.

And you will get the below page.

step 1;  Put a key word and click “Add to history”   In this system, you can make your key word list and
combine them. First, put a key word and push add to history bottom.

step 2; Make a list of your key words   Then you will get your key word’s list, for example, I made my key words list. It shows that there are 22111 articles including a word, dilated cardiomyopathy, 2554 articles including a ward, late gadolinium enhancement, and 14 articles including an author name, kyohei marume.

You can select category of the key word in this tab.

step 3; Combine your keywords and find more
specific articles Clicking Add tab, you can put your key words in upper blanks and combine them. For example, there are 203 articles including both dilated cardiomyopathy AND late gadolinium enhancement. 1 article including dilated cardiomyopathy, late gadolinium enhancement, and kyohei marume.

              You
can change AND, OR, NOT in this tab. I searched articles including dilated
cardiomyopathy and late gadolinium enhancement, not kyohei marume, and found 202
articles.

3. Filters

Look at the left column of the web page.
There are filters. Among them, I think review filter and full text filter are
useful. If you want to
learn the outline of the research area, “Review” filter may help you. If you
want to find only materials available with full text, “Full text” filter will
help you.

There are secret filters. You can add filters from “show additional filters” tab. I sometime use
journal categories filter.

If you check the blank of journal categories, Journal category filter will appear. If you want to find only paper in authoritative
journal, “Core clinical journals” is useful.
